Our Holiday Wish For Everyone

Blog Post 7: Sunday, December 23, 2012

The past 8 weeks has been filled with a wide range of national issues. Nationally, we’ve seen the Presidency remain unchanged; the phase “fiscal cliff” has become common place; gas prices have eased just as the holiday’s come around; Newtown has suddenly become a political reference point, not just a town or a tragedy; and there are many fiscal, emotional, and political questions we all face heading into 2013.

Personally, Tammie and I have spent the past week doing what we can to help our dear friends as they face the life threatening health struggles of their teenage son; and the news received only this past Friday that a fellow agent, who was every bit the Santa at heart as he was in his costume during our Monday meeting, passed away suddenly Thursday.

If we listen to the news, the coffee shop talk, or Facebook and Twitter, it wouldn’t be surprising to find one’s self saddened and disheartened about how things are going in the world. I hear many people fearful and disheartened about life moving forward.

This time of year always reminds both Tammie and I of some of the more tragic and painful experiences including the death of Tammie’s first husband, my own divorce, the death of my mother, and the reminder that I’m celebrating the season of hope without my father who passed away over two years ago. But through the hard times, Tammie and I would like to be a voice of hope to all that can hear.

Life is intended to be lived happily. With each struggle we have the hope of goodness just around the corner. Each tragedy we see gives us an opportunity to care for another and witness the goodness of others. The more goodness we see and look for, the more we find.

We invite each of you to look for the good. Be a voice of optimism despite rational reasons worry and fear. Speak kindly to yourself and others. And do all you can to fight off voices that would tear down your hope and optimism.

We wish you all a wonderful Holiday Season and a 2013 filled with goodness and hope!

I look forward to your questions, comments, and thoughts!
